- About Composer
Composer, pianist and Morin Khuur player.
Recently studying in Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing, China) majoring in composition.
His creative thinking often stems from the connectivity of sound and the exploration of the micro nature of sound, and he pursues to draw the spirit and thinking from Mongolian music, and his works have been performed in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Tokyo, Kota Kinabalu, etc.
Committed to the development of new music, he founded the "Laboratory of Contemporary Music" in 2022, which has successfully organised a variety of concerts of new music works, as well as seminars and salons.
About this piece
There are many interesting things about the human physiology. Those who are friends with the voice
will discover many interesting things about the human vocal cords. It is not easy to switch between the
real voice and the falsetto voice very smoothly. For example, it is almost impossible for a person to sing
in a real voice and raise the pitch and switch to falsetto with a smooth transition. This is a very natural
phenomenon. The sound effects produced can have similar results in many other situations, such as
woodwind overblowing or natural overtone slides in strings. One of the differences between humans and animals is that humans consciously try to fight nature
whereas animals do not. But the very paradoxical result is that humans actually just use the laws of
nature to fight nature without being able to break free of the laws of nature themselves. But again, the difference between humans and animals is that humans are conscious and subjectively
imitate and use nature. This is equally reflected in artistic creation. The phenomenon described earlier
was my inspiration for writing this work. Smoothly switching between true and false voices is not
accomplished; there is always a break in the sound during the glissando. In the flute, the acoustic
phenomenon produced by switching between real and overtones under the same fundamental is very
similar to the human vocal folds phenomenon previously described. The difference is that, despite this
uncontrollable situation, the human being is not able to utilise it and combine the other elements
(especially the particularly clear and fast notes) as freely as in the flute. It is a kind of "fight" against
nature, but at the same time a kind of submission and utilisation.
