- “8 Miniatures for 8 Oboes” comprises eight different miniatures each focusing on one unique sound that oboe can make. The main purpose is to explore the sounds of the oboe in a chamber setting that concentrates on the instrument's capabilities. Some sound or technique might not be as impactful with just a single or two oboes in a chamber or an orchestra setting, so why not eight of them? The decision to use eight oboes provides a rare opportunity to showcase the individual nuances of each sound while also creating a rich and textured ensemble experiencing diverse sonic possibilities (while using only oboe). Is it risky? Yes, since this is one of my most ambitious projects to put together, compositionally and in terms of collaboration. It is challenging, but I believe that this rare opportunity where I can find an amazing eight oboists to play comes once in a while. It is already amazing enough that I can find eight of them!
