I have written a piece for harp and multichannel electronics with the concept of creating the space of an imaginary ice cave, where the harp serves as a fantastical character triggering movements and behaviors within the sonic space. This piece is a part of the cycle "Baïkal" which includes 4 pieces.
Spatialization is a central element in my work. That's why I opted for an 18-channels spatial writing (16 in a circle around the audience, 2 localized near the instrument). The virtual organization of my space involves: near, medium, and distant spaces for electronic gestures; near, medium, and distant spaces for the environment. This allows me to work with different sonic planes and play with the notion of distance (closeness, distance, movements, etc.) – especially in interaction with the actions of the instrument, which remains stationary – further enhancing the "hybrid" perception of instrumental-electronic sound.
The electronic has multiple roles :
It is an augmentation of the acoustic instrument.
It is an accompanist.
It is an orchestra.
It is a dynamic space.
