- In three movements, the String Quartet explores the story of a warrior away from home and at battle, following scenes of conflict and bittersweet communication. A three-note pattern repeats, wraps, and elaborates with enduring themes throughout to represent the warrior's mindset as they fight, think of home and family, and contemplate their mortality. --- Style markings are meant to affect the performance tempo and style. ‘Broadening’ indicates a slightly slower tempo and a lengthening of notes within the beat. Indications of ‘more’ and ‘less’ are tempo and expression changes (slightly faster tempo, more vibrato), but are all ultimately up the musicians on how they give to ‘more’.
