- One large arch that builds from a dark, quiet surface and then builds to a bright, chaotic high-point. From this apex it falls back but at the same time is overtaken by a reflective process that has been subtly building throughout so, as the material returns to a similar state as the beginning, it inhabits a completely different sound world—completing, not so much an arch, but a misshapen prism. More poetically, this piece depicts the phases of the moon. The arch-like trajectory follows the moons path through the sky and formal events are sectioned off by each lunar phase. Within this segmented arch is a more fluid texture, full of undulating tide-like figures and their reflections. This music waxes and wanes and builds off itself through multiple layers. The material (timbre, pitch, rhythm, and gesture) also behaves cyclically, tensing and releasing with the “tides” but moving disproportionately to it, a boat on the water, oceanic isorhythm.
