I would like to begin the description of my work with the words of Aristotle: "Memory is the scribe of the soul". Our national poet Ales RazanaĆ is for me the gate to a new way of understanding life, philosophy and everything that surrounds me. I think he left this part of himself in my soul with his poetry. After his death in 2021 I was shocked. My piece represents this state of mind of mine. I decided to call this composition "...nicht zu sterben..." because this title tells the truth that RazanaĆ isn't dead with his soul. The lyrics of this piece are full of emotions. From one side it's deeply philosophical and religious, the other side of the lyrics tries to represent the fear of life. The soul wants to be free from all the unsustainability and unpredictability of life. I position this piece as a memorial composition. And this memorial feeling is emphasized by the tragic and confused character of the music. Moderate and motionless parts of the composition have their own nervous and unsustainable interruptions. These parts are mixed with the agitated and chaotic part. The last part of the composition is a monologue sung by different voices. At the end the last words "nicht zu sterben" are sung as a question we should ask ourselves: is Ales RazanaĆ dead or is a big part of his soul still alive?
