- Bliss is a piece that is based on one simple idea: the glissando. This technique is not normally used in some instruments, such as wind instruments. It requires the performers to mix embouchure and alternative fingerings to achieve a pitch bend between fingered pitches; the result is a sound which is by nature unstable and timbrally unusual. Bliss explores the unstable nature of these glissandi between all instruments in the ensemble, resulting in a sonic space which is unusual and, at times, whimsical.
