- Foco no Desfoque is a piece that explores the concept of noise as a profound and multifaceted musical element. Inspired by the philosophy, Deep Listening by Pauline Oliveros, the composition emphasises the importance of being fully present in the moment in the sound, be it a gesture or a sonic cluster thus inviting the listener to an intensely conscious and meditative listening experience. The piece uses noise not just as sound, but as a sonic material to be explored and understood in its various forms, such as the recurring moments of sound accumulations, where sound masses are made up of defined or undefined pitches. These textures allow the listener to feel free to explore each atmosphere created, immersing themselves deeply in the nuances of the sound characteristics throughout the performance. In this piece I also use the premise of manipulating the sound space using the performative gesture, i.e. using two microphones connected to specific speakers (left and right), the piece instructs the performer to direct their sound to one or both microphones, which is replicated through the amplification of the direction of the sound source through the acoustic space, according to the audience's perspective. For example, when the oboist plays into the microphone to his right (to the left of the audience), the sound is amplified by the left speaker. This technique not only amplifies the spatial perception of sound but also integrates the performer's movement and physical gesture as an integral part of the listening experience. The precise synchronisation between the direction of the sound and its spatial amplification creates an illusion of sound movement, increasing the audience's immersion and the sensation of an expanded sound space.
