Program Notes: Schwarzgeburt (Black Birth) was written by me, at the request of Richard Exner, to be performed on the occasion of his being named Faculty Research Lecturer at UCSB in 1984. The subject of his talk was "On the Limits of Knowing the Holocaust." Schwarzgeburt is a lament for Hiroshima.
