- "Emulsion" refers to a fine mixture of originally immiscible substances. The "emulsifier" is an auxiliary substance that dissolves the "interfacial tension" of the substances, thereby enabling this connection. This simple chemical observation, whose reality is commonplace for us in the form of milk or skin creams, was the starting point for Ying Wang's "Emulsonic." Wang's substances are Techno, traditional Japanese and European music, Morse codes, and noise in various colors. Her emulsifier is timbre and rhythm. While the material itself remains diverse, making tonal and formally large leaps, the transitions in timbre are always nuanced, flowing, designed through interlocking particles. Wang attempts to liberate the musical material—the substances—from their historical burdens by dissolving their interfacial tension.
