- Program Notes
- Every year around late May/early June, a beautiful bloom of purple flowers appears on the Jacaranda trees throughout Los Angeles and Southern California. The flowers are a light lilac color and eventually fall to the ground with assistance from the wind and breezes. The effect is a plethora of green-leaved trees with purple flowers floating in the wind and falling. It’s a beautiful sight and it is my favorite time of year in Los Angeles. The second movement - breezes, whisps, and ruminations - presents several scenes of the calm trees basking in the summer sun. There are many moments of pause and reflection for the player and listener to imagine sitting under the tree with sunlight poking through and small breezes passing by. The serene beauty washing over.
