With "von Sonne und Obst und Palmen" ("of Sun and Fruit and Palm Trees"), I finally carried out an idea I've had for a while: to make a score that can also be read - in it's entirety - as a graphic novel. The piece combines traditional music notation with different forms of graphic notation, illustration, calligraphy and collage. As the "summer" piece of my 4-seasons-series, it heavily deals with abundance in various forms, including topics such as consumerism, pollution and mental overload. It's a big collage made from text and music snippets I found in news reports, ads, songs, documentaries, brochures, etc. as well as lots of my own material. The graphics also contain collage elements drawn from photographs and AI-generated pictures. A figure in a hoodie leads through this modern satire, making their way through our human-made world, stumbling into ambiguous situations that open up spaces for your own interpretations.
