- Lamento Oceánico is a Guitar Trio which aims, following the famous quote by H. Lachenmann, to compose a piece for a guitar trio as an intent to rebuild the instrument. The title refers to a lament dedicated to those creatures living in the seas that are hunted and killed by the human species. These creatures are musical creatures as well as humans or birds, but somehow not regarded as as such many times. We know about their intelligence and the place they give to music in their lives, which is similar to that given by humans in their cultures but that does not seem to convince us from considering them equal to us. On the score there are programmatic sections for the performers to follow the narrative of the piece, which starts with the introduction of the sea creatures (they are specified to be whales on the score, but this was unknown to the audience at the premiere), the begining of the hunt, the culmination of the hunt and lastly, the lament. The performers are asked to employ a variety of extended techniques which include singing and shouting. There is as well an influence of the tradition of the taiko drums in this, which is reinforced by the moments in which the guitar strings are played with chopsticks.
