- Program Notes
- “...the night smells like snow...” gets its title from a line in the poem “Night Walk” by Franz Wright. The scene set by the poem is a quiet walk through the city, starting in an empty convenience store. The poem uses this setting as a way to explore feelings of loneliness along with an “unendurable” yearning for some sort of human connection. The piece “...the night smells like snow...” explores similar ideas, through the use of sparse orchestration, along with field recordings made during the night in downtown Salt Lake City.
