Program Notes
Commissioned by the Meridian Community Band for the occasion of their 50th Anniversary, Meridian Jubilee is about the roots of the group's name- a little place named Meridian Township. Located in Okemos, Michigan, this township has a historical museum with buildings such as a barn and town hall that can be toured. Additionally, there's a public park with nature all over so people can enjoy the small lake and the woods nearby. This piece starts with a fanfare, as is customary for a celebratory work but transitions into calmer and lyrical music representing the beauty this little slice of nature and history has to offer a rather large suburban region. A playful transition then ushers into the closing fanfare, based on the music that has already been heard.
