- Program Notes
- Overhead Freeway is a solo work for violin that conjures the high-speed danger and smoggy filth of a freeway during rush hour using virtuosic passage-work and heavy rock styling. Originally conceived and written as a movement to "Empty City for Violin and Piano", I extracted it as its own solo piece at the request of my husband Fehérló, the violinist you hear here and for whom the piece was written. I love how intense and exhilarating this work is and how much it demands of the player, truly gripping the player and listener alike in a dance of death we all here in 21st century America do every single day.
