- This is the second in a series of pieces reflecting on how technology, particularly the Internet, facilitates our memory. On the one hand, the Internet is a storehouse of text, images, audio, and other data that records our lives in much greater detail than we could hope to capture using other means. On the other hand, this data can be manipulated, misrepresented, commodified, or simply lost. But is it any more or less reliable than our own memory? For this piece, I considered how music and technology act as a form of cultural memory to influence future generations of creators. I applied this idea to my personal experience by drawing inspiration from what initially attracted me to composition: video game music and piano arrangements of video game music. I refracted these influences through my current compositional style, including the use of electronics, to reflect on the intertwined narratives of music, technology, and memory.
