Program Notes
Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum (In other words, Speak No Evil) was written in honor of Wayne Shorter and the impact he’s personally had on my life, my work & my artistic goals. The name of the title itself stems from Wayne Shorter’s 6th studio album, “Speak No Evil”. In regards to Wayne Shorter, there was always a unique aura around his wisdom, a sense of fantasy and mysticism always surrounded his words. I feel part of that reason is why his music is so magical and each time I dive into a piece of Shorter’s music, it feels like I’m discovering music for the first time again. The goal of this piece is to create a sense of mythos, magic, and connectivity of people through an examination of soon to be known sounds as this piece is performed.
