Indigo Knecht's unbroken passion is an experiment in color and texture for Hypercube’s instrumentation. Using the spectral analysis of the badly out-of-tune piano in my classroom, the piece loosely evolves around the harmonic and inharmonic spectra discovered in the analyses of several samples. To me, much of the pitch material felt reminiscent of thunder and rain, reminding me of a specific poem: Madison Julius Cawein’s “A Stormy Sunset” (1893). The form of the piece follows
the text of “A Stormy Sunset,” drawing from the imagery of evening storms and the aftermath of said storms.
