- Program Notes
- Moving Image is a single-movement work in four sections related by tempo and gesture. The opening section introduces the insistent, repeated note figures that appear throughout the piece. Harmonically, the music begins by exploiting sonorities built around the interval of the major seventh, which eventually settles into more traditional triadic harmonies. The pianistic writing in Moving Image parallels the style used by Mr. Ovens in many of his solo marimba works and attempts to challenge the technical and music abilities of the performer. The music of Moving Image builds an irresistible momentum that constantly pushes forward in a persistent though unpredictable manner.
