- La Condicion Postuma is a piece for marimba and electronic music (Interactive Musical System with gestural interface) that is part of the MARIMBA LIQUIDA project by musician Juanjo Guillem. A project of works surrounding the search for new possibilities of the marimba and that makes the instrument rethink. A new instrument. “LA CONDICIÓN PÓSTUMA” is a piece for marimba and electronic music based on Marina Garcés book: LA NUEVA ILUSTRACIÓN RADICAL. In this book marina Garcés identifies the characteristics of our contemporary time. A current space-time that defines it as having a “posthumous condition.” A time of ours that has been debated for some decades now between two omens or conditions present and future apparently inevitable: between a fatalistic prognosis of the humanity, the end of history, the apocalypse; and between a prognosis of salvation thanks to the incorporation and inclusion of the spectacular feats of technology and Robotics in our current and future societies. “LA CONDICIÓN PÓSTUMA” is a about gestures, sounds beings, "small" hyper-amplified sounds that organize themselves. In this piece, two possible narratives are exposed and juxtaposed: the catastrophe and the salvation. Two realities immersed in the liquid, elusive and changing medium where inhabits the hyper instrumentalist augmented with his hyper instrument (marimba and interactive electroacoustic system). The acoustic instrument and electronic music they function as A WHOLE, as a current being. The sound/musical result is more than the sum of the parts. The use of technical and compositional resources of electronics allow you to create a new instrument (the hyper instrument), as well as rethink its sound, its gestures and its musicality. The electronic part consists of the amplification of the marimba with 3 microphones in 3 zones of the instrument. Make the sound appear and modify it in a more or less subtle and real-time treatment with a control plate (gestual itnerface). A hyper marimba new sound. The musician puts his body, decides, gets involved, criticizes the context to create an environment habitable, radical, new, with a future in contrast to the current posthumous condition. The score investigates the gestural possibilities of musician to make decisions that will have an impact on the sound. The score, as a graphic / text score, suggests gestures, melodic contours, rhythms, etc... where the music has chose and create his own route. At the same time, the gesture on the electronic board it's for the musician a moment. of freedom where the musician freely takes control of the machine.
