Sa-li-ta-an is derived from the Tagalog word salita which means “word.” Adding the suffix -an takes the meaning of the word in salitaan into “a space where words are used.” This piece is inspired by word playing that I have been doing the past years, questioning meaning and meanings, reflecting a bigger context of questioning identities that globalization brings. Throughout the piece, the phrase sino ka? (who are you?) is fragmented as critical questions of tradition, hybridization, othering, is brought into conversation.
