- This piece was commissioned by the Gabriel Chamber Ensemble to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Schuylkill County. It acknowledges two great Schuylkill County products--coal and beer--by using as its source material four popular songs. The coal songs are "Nineteen Tons" and "Workin' in a Coal Mine; the beer songs are "Beer Barrel Polka" and "In Heaven there is No Beer." Black and Tan is also a popular beer made by Schuylkill County's premiere brewery, Yuengling.
