Multiphonic are indicated as a conglomeration of notes that are not correspond to the sounds that will actually be emitted. The agglomeration is accompanied by an indication indicating it the character, both in terms of timbre and intensity, both in terms of expression. For example: "sweet", "aggressive", "to be able to attack softly (or fortissimo)", "rich in harmonics", "single sound to multiphonic" and so on. Therefore the choice of positions of the required multiphonic is left to the performer. This is because, for this mode of attack, the variables are multiple and not always controllable in a punctual way.
