Program Notes
This piece is about a mundane struggle that most of us are familiar with - the struggle to get up in the morning some days. The piece starts off in a major key to symbolize a bright morning, only to quickly descend into the parallel minor to represent the struggle of whether it is even worth it to get out of bed. The themes get manipulated throughout the piece to illustrate the push and pull of contrasting ideas - do I stay in bed, or do I get up? It ends in a reiteration of the beginning "morning" motif, suggesting that after all that inner struggle, I got up anyway.
