- Program Notes
- This piece depicts the exploration of the planet, Venus. The introduction is a call from the planet, luring us toward it, and at rehearsal A we begin our venture. Rehearsals C-D is when we discover the deceptive beauty of the planet and get dragged down beneath the gaseous surface and exposed to the putrid and toxic environment below. At rehearsal E, it seems a window of opportunity is available to leave, but we are denied our escape and taken back down again, descending further. At rehearsal I, we contemplate our hopeless situation, and our final descent begins at rehearsal J. However, it seems to turn around at rehearsal J7, and from rehearsal K we slowly leave Venus reflecting on our intense journey. At Rehearsal L, we are on our way home and finally arriving home with the final chord.
