Program Notes
Creative Spirit Online: "Subtitled Sinfonia Concertante, this is a stunning, challenging new major work for clarinet and orchestra, by Dallas-based composer Robert John Brooks. Soundcloud listeners to the demo recording have characterized it as “flying, gliding, hovering, grasping, plummeting: a colorful life of a raptorial bird; the harmonies are warm in spite of dissonances, transitions are liquid, vivid.” The work is in one movement. The duration is about 17 minutes. Printed and electronic copies of the score and parts are available for your viewing or purchase from www.CreativeSpiritOnline.com. Performance notes: • Tempo, expression, and dynamic markings should be strictly observed. • There is no key signature. Accidentals apply to the end of the measure or to the note tied over the measure, and only to notes of the same pitch class, in the same octave. • Hairpin pairs indicate a temporary volume change of one dynamic level • The score is transposed. • Double Basses with C-extensions are assumed. Orchestra: 1 Piccolo, 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 1 English Horn, 1 Eb Clarinet, 2 Bb Clarinets, 1 Bass Clarinet, 2 Bassoons, 1 Contrabassoon, 4 F Horns, 2 C Trumpets, 2 Tenor Trombones, 1 Bass Trombone, 1 Tuba, Timpani, Percussion (Snare drum, Bass drum, Triangle, Crash cymbal, Suspended cymbal, Tam-tam, Large gong, Medium gong), Solo Bb Clarinet, Strings
