Quartet

I often think about the physicality of playing an instrument. I love watching players do things on stage that are far from standard practice. This piece explores what it might look like if multiple people played the same cello at the same time. Quartet is structured in four cello vignettes separated by piano interludes, with each vignette adding another player to the cello. Symbolically, this work represents overcoming life's immense struggles and challenges through compassion and friendship. As people come together to play the cello, the music is transformed from the total chaos of the first vignette to a harmonious conclusion.
