tietfi is a piece about unmaking itself. The piece starts at a single, highly concentrated point, where every instrument is designed to serve a singular function within an ensemble-wide compound sound. As the focus of that sound collapses, the piece slowly expands: once the space is wide enough, new, non-hierarchical relationships between the instruments emerge. Now, they can enjoy the freedom of exploring their sound languages without prejudice towards their initial functions. This space can only exist so long, however, before tiefti begins the process of reversing itself.
