- Program Notes
- PezhvÄk, which means āreflectionā in Persian, is a journey to merge Persian music with Western musical idioms. This piece tries to discover what happens if the characteristics and expression of the surnÄy (a double-reed instrument found in Persian, Turkish, and Arabic traditions) are applied to the oboe. The music brings together multiple temperaments and scale systems, including twelve-tone equal temperament, just intonation, and the Persian DastgÄh.
