June Young (Will) Kim was born in 1996 in South Korea and since 2008 has lived in Canada, USA and Germany. He draws inspiration from many sources, but perhaps what has the most influence on his aesthetic choices are the things he loved the most as a child, such as the cityscapes and sounds of cicadas in Korea.

His music has been performed by ensembles such as International Ensemble Modern Academy, International Contemporary Ensemble, S201, Schallfeld Ensemble, Quartetto Prometeo, Syntax Ensemble, members of the Berlin Philharmonic, and Ensemble Paramirabo. His music is published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni of Milano.

He received his Bachelor in Composition from Indiana University Bloomington in 2018. Funded by the DAAD scholarship, he received his Masters in Composition from HMT München, studying with Isabel Mundry. He received a II Level Masters in Composition from Conservatorio di Milano with Marco Stroppa, George Benjamin, Unsuk Chin, Klaus Lang and Alberto Posadas as his teachers. In 2022, he received a Certificate of Advanced Studies at HMDK Stuttgart as a student of Marco Stroppa.

He is a scholarship holder of DAAD Stipendium, Deutscher Musikrat Stipendium, Stipendienprogramms des Freistaats Bayern and the Landeshauptstadt München Musikstipendium.

He was a 2022 Fromm Foundation Fellow at Brandeis University Composer’s Conference.
