What was then isn’t now and will never be again portrays the agonizing yearning for the past—an emotional state where time and memory merge into an unresolved longing. Built from transcriptions and reconstructions of a cry, a scream, and other melancholic sounds, the piece embodies the essence of emotional turmoil. These sounds, imagined to be produced and echoing within an empty space, evoke a sense of isolation and loss. The subtle indeterminate changes of textures in the background also mimic the constantly moving noise floor of the imagined acoustic space. In the end, the recurring scream repeats itself as if caught in an infinite loop, intensifying the sensation of being unable to move forward, forever tethered to a moment that can never be reclaimed.
