"First Flight" depicts the Phoenix – a mythical bird that upon death, is reborn from its own ashes, and takes its first flight again. We hear its gentle awakening, atmospheric and serene, gradually increasing in intensity as the turmoil of its desires to fly rumbles below, erupting into a driving rhythmic push to its climactic take-off. Then, a distant echo as it flies past our vision into the sky, with a textural homage to Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony with the flute and offstage trumpet.
The orchestra was remade with a mix of musesounds and EastWest hollywood opus, and the wonderful singer - Eve Ward, was recorded over the orchestra at the Royal Academy of Music.
