Uncertain Journey to the Tai Shai, awarded second place in the CHINA-CEEC Music Academies Union Chamber Composition Competition, had its premiere in Hangzhou, China. The work also received an Honorable Mention at the Andrea Ceraso Rome Award and, and the outmost honor of a “so delicious” in the live performance video on the composer’s YouTube channel.
This poetic and suggestive composition integrates the evocative bangdi Chinese flute within a contemporary musical language, pushing the boundaries of its traditional use. Through intricate textures, the piece seeks to explore a musical narrative that mirrors the ambiguity of a journey that has not yet taken place—a voyage of sonic contours where nuances of dreams and echoes unfold into a shifting evocative soundscape.
