- Program Notes
- The string quartet âDeal With The Devilâ was written for a halloween concert presented by Composers Concordance and performed by the Kahlo String Quartet. The music takes some of its materials from my composition âDevilâ scored for an a cappella chorus of shout singers, the harsh sounding vocal techniques used mostly in thrash metal music. The piece ends with the blues, the music closely associated with the devil, mostly because of the story about blues legend Robert Johnson, who is said to have made a deal with the devil to become a great blues musician. The piece uses many extended techniques to mimc the sound of the shout voice and realize what the sound of the Devil might be.
