- Original composition in four sections. 1. "Olorin", this was Gandalf's name in his youth when he lived in Valinor. He was the wisest of the Maiar. He spent much time in the house of Nienna, the Valor of sadness and grief. Gandalf learns pity and patience from her. 2. "Shadowfax" is his steed from Rohan where they breed the best horses. Shadowfax is the "Lord of Horses". 3' Encounter with the Balrog. While traveling through the Mines of Moria, the party is encounters a Balrog (Demon of Might). Gandalf enters into combat with it to save the rest of the party. He smites the Balrog but dies himself. 4. "Gandalf the White" Gandalf has been resurrected and sent back to Middle Earth to help win against Sauron. He participates in the Battle of Helm's Deep, the Battle of Pelennor Fields, and the March on the Black Gates.
