"Mbakumba Dance" is the first movement from my Zimbabwean Dance Suite for String Quartet. It is a polyrhythmic dance performed to celebrate a bountiful harvest in the Karanga regions of Zimbabwe. The music captures the essence of the dance, including call and response, clapping, and polyrhythms. Drumming and percussion play a crucial role in Mbakumba Dance performances, and the String Quartet begins by capturing the rhythmic elements of the drumming and percussion patterns.
