- Commissioned by St. Mattew’s Music Guild with support from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. World premiere June 3rd , 2022 at The Parish of St. Matthew, Pacific Palisades, CA by the St. Matthew’s Chamber Orchestra, Dwayne Milburn, director. "Awakenings" explores the delicate, often difficult process of introspection and self-reflection. Through the utilization of heterophonic textures and canonic imitation, chant-like melodies overlap and intertwine with each other, layering to create rich harmonies. Through several sections, the piece always returns to the same motive and ultimately comes full-circle, representing the individual’s unending search for meaning and understanding.
