- Open Into Wings considers the inability of imagining the Earth in a dying state, given that much of climate change is possible to ignore on a mundane, everyday basis. This interpretive state, in
between acknowledgement and denial, is a space of uncertainty and confusing, yet heightened emotion. Within the piece, this manifests as a sort of Deleuzian “schizophrenia” that embraces
the emotive multiplicity that arises when considering individual agency and systemic barriers, while “having a normal life” during the end of the Anthropocene. When the world is burning,
we still love our friends, we still look at the stars, we still hope. And yet, time will never stand still for our individual desires.
Text by Sam Smith:
Sea foam from wounds in the shore
They refuse to heal, to scar over again
The skies are filled with colorless fire
Who will protect the Earth from Heaven?
T h e M u n d u s is c o n d e m n e d t o r o t
The Messiah hides in a graveyard of light
Chasm in between two worlds;
A head pulled off its shoulders
Flee to the heights,
Where you heard a voice
Too pale for meaning
Hands that refuse to grasp
Open into wings
