Program Notes
"When You Are Old" is a choral setting of perhaps the best known love poem of all time. In his text, William Butler Yeats describes a once beautiful woman who had rejected him. When he and the woman were young, Yeats was the only man that admired her for more than her outward appearance. Years later, the woman has aged in appearance and feels as though true love has evaded her. She and Yeats sadly ponder the relationship that escaped them both.
