Inspired by Goethe’s poem of the same title, my goal with this piece was to explore the same idyllic intimacy that is found in the text. The pastoral nature of the poem is reflected by delicate textures and dark sonorities; sometimes brooding and tumultuous, but more often it is evocative of the gently blooming love that exemplified at the poem’s end.
