Emmet Lewis (b. 2001) is a composer and trumpeter based in Bloomington, Indiana. Raised near lakes and forests in Mid-Michigan, he has always held an affinity for incorporating the beauty of the natural world into his music. Lewis uses colorful gestures, powerful harmonies, and a feeling of inevitability for dramatic effect in his pieces. His works include chamber music, wind band repertoire, orchestral works, and electronic music.

Lewis’ work has been read by contemporary music groups such as Longleash, The Westerlies, Imani Winds, and the Now Ensemble. Additional projects include multiple band commissions and his orchestral work The Night Sky Speaks, premiered by the Michigan State University Concert Orchestra as part of the Jere Hutcheson Large Ensemble Competition. Lewis has also collaborated with MSU’s contemporary music ensemble, Musique 21, as part of winning the chamber category in the Honors Composition Competition.

Lewis is currently attending the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University to pursue a master’s degree in music composition, studying with Don Freund. He graduated from Michigan State University in 2025, studying with Alexis Bacon, David Biedenbender, and Ricardo Lorenz.
