Ethan Khoo is a 15 year old composer-pianist based in Singapore, currently studying in St. Joseph’s Institution while pursuing piano studies and music composition. He has attained a diploma (ARSM) in piano and participates in his school band (SJISB) regularly as a percussionist and pianist. He is currently a composition student under the New York based Singaporean composer Koh Cheng Jin, and a piano student of Malaysian Pianist Chin Ying Soong. He has been part of various composition workshops in Singapore, such as the Young Composer’s Academy (YCA), working closely with professors from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory and musicians from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO). He has also worked with musicians beyond the borders of Singapore, such as Tengku Irfan and Aaron Wolff. Some of his pieces premiered include ‘Half a World Away from Home’ for Cello and Piano, and ‘Hallucinations’ for solo bassoon. Other than professional premieres, Ethan also engages with musicians at the school level, composing for SJI’s percussion ensemble. Additionally, Ethan participated in the Singapore Wind Symphony’s open call for scores for their ‘Emerging Composer’s Collective’.
