Sienna Hale
Composer and Sound Artist
Based in Chicago, Sienna Hale is a composer and researcher whose practice sits at the intersection of algorithmic generative systems and spectral acoustic composition. Currently serving as the Chair of Composition at The recherche university, her work seeks to deconstruct the traditional hierarchy of the concert hall through the use of custom-coded software and immersive spatial audio.
Her portfolio features large-scale commissions for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and several European radio orchestras, often characterized by a rigorous, "brutalist" approach to sound design. As an educator, Hale is a pioneer in the field of computer-assisted composition, having authored several textbooks on the pedagogical applications of live-coding in the modern conservatory. She is the founder of the Synthesis Lab, an interdisciplinary collective dedicated to mentoring the next generation of Composers in music technology.
