Located in Arcadia, California, Our Savior Lutheran Church (OSLC) seeks works of serious artistic ambition for SATB saxophone quartet. Submit your anonymized scores and MIDI or MP3 renders by April 1, 2027, for a chance to win cash prizes and a featured public performance by the Gold Line Quartet in Los Angeles.
Eligible works must be original compositions for SATB saxophone quartet: soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. Works should be 5 to 15 minutes in duration. Previously performed works are eligible, provided they have not received more than two public performances by professional ensembles before the submission deadline. Private readings, workshops, classroom readings, and rehearsal recordings do not count as public performances. Works that have been commercially published or commercially recorded are not eligible. Composers of any nationality and age are welcome to participate.

THE OSLC SACRED SACRED MUSIC MANDATE:
Proudly supported by a commissioning grant from the Pacific Southwest District’s 100 in 10 initiative, the OSLC Sacred Music Mandate seeks to bridge the gap between historic liturgical tradition and the evolving language of contemporary chamber music.
It is our desire that the winning compositions reflect a vision to expand the prominence of sacred music in the classical saxophone repertoire. We are seeking works of high structural, analytical, and technical caliber—compositions crafted with the intent to become staples of the standard quartet repertoire.
ABOUT GOLD LINE QUARTET:
Los Angeles-based Gold Line Quartet is a saxophone group merging the sounds of 19th century classical music with contemporary artists and pop/movie music from the 90s to today. Described by Associate Artistic Director Margaret Starbuck as a “a treat to hear,” the ensemble has played across dozens of venues across Southern California.
We have degrees in saxophone performance from UCLA to Jacques Thibaud Conservatory in Bordeaux, France. Top performance venues include the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and Boston Court. Notable teachers include Jan Berry Baker, Carrie Koffman, Leo Saguiguit, and Jean-Marie Londeix.
When Gold Line was founded, we needed an outlet to share our work using the high standards of training beyond the academic world. We wanted to make something human, something that reflected real life. And we realized our art cannot exist in a vacuum. We want you to feel our passion when you hear us play and understand the power of four saxophones as a leading champion of chamber music in the 21st century.
