Ensemble Kochi, JAPAN, is calling for a work for chamber ensemble to be premiered at the 27th Concert “Passionately Forged Beethoven”

March 19th, 2027, TOYOSU Cultural Center Hall, Koto-ward, Tokyo, JAPAN

2. Work
2-1.Condition for a work
Only unpublished and un-premiered work is accepted. In the case that the submitted piece was premiered only in educational institutes such as universities, it is treated as ‘un-premiered’.

2-2. Instrumentation
8 to 15 players based on the instrumentation of Ensemble Kochi:
1 flute (incl. piccolo, alto & bass), 1 oboe (incl. cor-anglais), 1 clarinet (incl. bass-clarinet), 1 bassoon, 1 horn, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 1 percussion part (a list of percussion can be provided upon request), 1 harp, 1 piano (extended internal techniques and preparation are NOT permitted.), 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 violoncello, 1 contrabass.
A conductor is not counted as a player.

2-4. Work content
The year 2027 marks the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death. The concert theme, “Passionately Forged Beethoven,” references the title of his Piano Sonata No. 23, “Appassionata”, and conveys the meaning of “creating with passion.” The program includes Schnebel’s "Beethoven-Symphony" and Akira Nishimura’s "Little Symphony Based on Beethoven’s Eight Symphonies", both of which are reinterpretations of Beethoven’s works. Additionally, three composers from Ensemble Kochi will premiere new works in which they each approach Beethoven in their own unique ways.
For the open call for works from around the world, the condition is that they must be based on Beethoven and his works.

3. Application

3-2. Deadline for submission
September 30th, 2026. 23:59 (Japanese Standard Time)

4. Selection
The selection committee and all members of Ensemble Kochi will select a work to be premiered, and will announce the result by the end of November 2026.

5. Submission of part score
Please send all part scores by the end of January 2027.

6. Others
・No fee is required to apply.
・No fee will be paid for using the music scores, while the copyright fee will be paid through JASRAC or another equivalent copyright management organisation.
・We do not prevent applicants from submitting more than 2 works. In such a case, please apply each separately.
・The composer of the selected work will be asked to attend rehearsals (including online participation) whenever possible; however, we can not pay for transportation or lodging.
・After the premiere, a performance video is provided to the composer.
