New South Music is currently accepting submissions of original Wind Ensemble/Concert Band, Solo Repertoire, Chamber Music, Choral & Elementary Music, Jazz Ensemble, and String/Full Orchestra compositions for our growing catalog. Range of difficulty spans from elementary to professional. Compositions should be 3 to 7 minutes. We operate as a modern digital publisher and distributor focused on providing a transparent, creator-centric partnership. No permanent contracts or right of first refusal clauses.
Who We Are:
We are a small, active team of creators, each bringing distinct specialties and national accolades that complement one another. Because we are active in the field, we are fiercely protective of our own intellectual property, and we promise to respect yours with that exact same ferocity:
Shane Porter (Founder/GM): A commercial and jazz heavyweight, established the New South Jazz Orchestra and whose writing for the Big Band of Brothers project garnered Grammy consideration and critical praise from DownBeat magazine. Recent projects include working with the Nashville Symphony and Jamey Johnson. His brass commission, “Shadows and Illuminations,” was debuted by the Monarch Brass in 2025.
Stephanie Porter (Administration & Choral): A 24-year elementary music veteran and a three-time Grammy-nominated music educator recognized for her unique pedagogical approach, composing simple melodies to help students improve reading comprehension.
Nicholas C. Efstathiou (Wind Ensemble): An active music director and conductor honored nationally as a recipient of the prestigious Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation Music Teacher of Excellence award.
Thomas Furlough (Technical Operations & Strings): An orchestral performer, clinician, and studio specialist who has performed with both the Montgomery and Tuscaloosa Symphonies and serves in the Governor’s Own 151st Army National Guard Band.
Intellectual Property & Rights (Print & Storefront Only): We license exclusive print and storefront digital sheet music distribution rights for the signed work during the contract term. You retain 100% of your underlying copyright ownership, along with 100% of all other rights, including:

We do not require permanent contracts (1-year initial commitment, renewable unless terminated by either party after the initial year) and we do not enforce any “right of first refusal” clauses on your future, unsigned works.
Performance Royalties (PRO): Your 50% ASCAP/BMI/SESAC Writer’s Share remains completely untouched and is paid directly to you by your PRO.
New South Music administers only the corresponding 50% Publisher’s Share during the term of our agreement. Upon contract termination, all administrative publishing rights revert cleanly back to you.
Sales Royalties: Selected works receive an escalating sales royalty starting at 50% and scaling up to 75% based on cumulative sales volume per composition (paid on net proceeds after standard credit card and Stripe processing merchant fees)
