My inspiration for writing Wandering actually started with the opening motive first heard in the cellos. This simple chromatic idea was the basis for the whole piece, upon which I later developed and passed around the orchestra. There are many call-and-response moments and quick changes in dynamics in this piece, for I wanted to make the most out of the performers and the orchestral medium given that this piece is very short. This piece was composed for the University of California, Berkeley Symphony Orchestra reading project.
